5/29/03 - Florence Planning Commission Refuses to Expand UGB to Casino Property. On May 27, the Florence Planning Commission voted to recommend the following to the City Council. The final decision about expanding the Urban Growth Boundary will be made by the City Council. Planning Commission resolution: Expand UGB to include ONLY about 20 acres next to Florentine Estates on Munsel Lake Road. There was discussion that indicated that three of the planning commissioners wanted to include other properties which were also being considered. Vote:
This vote means that the planning commission recommendation to the city council will NOT INCLUDE the following properties: Hatch Tract, golf course property adjacent to Hatch Tract, two properties adjacent to the Hatch Tract which are expected to be transferred to the tribes, and two other properties on North Fork Road. At the suggestion of Commissioner Bales, the planning commission also told staff to remove all mention of the 18th Street extension to North Fork Road. Staff said that also meant that 18th Street would drop from a "collector" street (much higher traffic expected) to a "local" street. This is a definite victory for PACT. Our first line of defense is the Urban Growth Boundary, and not providing city services to a casino. Don't forget to thank those commissioners (Teal, Neiberline, Franzen, Lysdale) who voted against including any property along North Fork Road. |
