Casino
Questions & Answers
The casino developers have given out information in bits and pieces
about the casino complex they want to build, and have presented an ever-changing
comprehensive "plan" to government agencies, depending on
the purpose. Here's what we've been able to glean from news reports,
public meetings, and public information.
Plans
For Casino in Florence
Documents provided to government officials in 2004 indicated the casino
would be "visible from Highway 101." The plans submitted to
government officials changed often, and it wasn't until the casino developers
breached the dune next to the city's primary access road (Hwy. 126)
that we became aware the Oregon Department of Transportation was going
to allow the casino entrance to be put in this heavy traffic location.
Other documents produced by the casino tribe indicate the "permanent"
casino will be located on top of the dune overlooking the Siuslaw estuary.
Why
All Oregonians Should Heed Florence Battle
Did you know that Oregon's constitution prohibits casinos? The people
of Oregon voted in 1984 to amend the constitution to ban them. How,
then, have nine different Oregon casinos been given the green light
by our state government? As we predicted in 2004, the State is now proposing
to allow another off-reservation casino - this time near a prime scenic
area, the Cascade Locks.

Left Out of Reparations Debate
The shameful history of Americas westward expansion echoes in
these suggestions as would similar histories of conquests of every people
whose lands had been invaded through the sad course of mankinds
recorded sins. But, does acknowledging past injustices by the grandfathers
mean that their sins must be visited upon the grandchildren?
